The only real negative so far has been the voice acting in the campaign, which ranges from mediocre-to-bad. It's very much a learn-as-you-play kind of game. It is a big, dense game though, and the tutorials could be better, so it will take some time to really come to terms with how it's played. The strategic map and battle map are both more engaging than ever. I haven't gotten deep enough to properly analyse the mechanics, but so far all of the changes and additions from AoW3 feel very much for the better. It's a good way to introduce yourself to the game, with some focused objectives and very loose difficulty early on. But AFAIK it never manifests in the same way as CivBE's divergent tech trees-the tech tree depends on faction and tech path alone.Īs to general impressions, I've been having a blast playing through the campaign.
